META (Metarhizium anisopliae) Metarhizium anisopliae is a species of entomopathogenic fungus that is widely used as a biological control agent for insect pests. It belongs to the fungal order Hypocreales and the family Clavicipitaceae. It is adapted to survive in diverse environmental conditions. It can persist in soil, leaf surfaces, and other habitats, waiting for suitable host insects to come into contact with it and ability to infect and kill a wide range of insect species. It is an entomopathogenic fungus, meaning it specifically targets and infects insects. It can penetrate the insect cuticle (outer covering) and invade the insect’s body cavity.
